In 1914, Sofus Sonnichsen was called up as a soldier and had to sell his butcher's shop. He served for one year, the shop was sold to Fischer, and after ten years he bought it back. In 1953, Sofus Sonnichsen's son and daughter-in-law, Anna Lise and Sonny Sonnichsen, took over the shop. Seven years later they needed more space. They bought Hovedgaden 16, which was a private home, and converted it into a butcher's shop. They ran the business there for 34 years before choosing to sell it to us in 1994.
We fell completely for this unusually welcoming butcher's shop. We were very fortunate: Anna Lise and Sonny had built an excellent business where quality, craftsmanship and good customer care came first. We had a great deal to live up to. We were very nervous at first, but all our customers welcomed us warmly. We have now run the butcher's shop since 1994. From 1994 to 2008, the shop was at Hovedgaden 16. Today the address is Hovedgaden 17. We had to acknowledge that we simply did not have enough space. The first shop was a good size, but we lacked production space. Every winter Henrik develops exciting new salamis, because he simply cannot help himself, and Fanø ham requires a great deal of room. There were simply too few square metres. We therefore bought Hovedgaden 17, where the butcher's shop originally began, which is rather fitting.
We are proud to say that the new shop is exactly as we want it, while retaining all the welcoming character from number 16 at number 17.
Welcome to our shop.
